Kailey has her heart set on buying a Nintendo Ds. She has been begging me to buy one for the longest, and we just haven't had the money to purchase one. (
That's because one is really two. Let's face it we all know they can't share!)
Well after school being the little entrepreneur that she thinks she is, she came up with a plan. Seeing how "she just has to have money coming in!"... (She's 9, and has to have money coming in! Where does she come up with this?) Her bright idea is she's going to hold a lemonade stand. (I remember as a kid having one myself. Makes you wonder why do all kids do this? Too many little rascal episodes maybe?) Anyways, I've tried to be very encouraging to her master plan. That was until I had to burst her bubble and tell her she couldn't charge $10.00 a glass! "Why do you think that's too much?" she said. I'm sorry but I couldn't help but laugh (I almost choked on my drink! That's highway robbery! Is she giving out burgers with them?) Bless her heart she actually thought she would get that! So needless to say she was a little disappointed in the fact she wouldn't be getting near her asking price, or earning everything she needed in one day. I'm sure in her mind, she had been counting up how many family members she would see, and that determined the $10 a glass. Well, I got to hand it to her, she sure goes after what she wants. She's at least using her brains and not her looks. (That's my girl!) She's very smart conniving a plan, going to over charge people, and being sneaky about it. Hey, Wait a minute...she sounds like a con-artist in the making! (Note to self... Seek counseling!) You know, maybe I should have just taught her to flip her hair and look cute after all.
I love it! My son just keeps bugging me for a DS (I think he thinks if he asks enough I will just give in). He would never put in that much effort (but then again he's a boy/guy, need I say more!
ReplyDeleteI'm actually bribing my two year old with a DS (yes I am an awful mommy) but good God, what is it going to take to get the rugrat potty trained? It's not rocket science!
ReplyDeleteMy girls are all about the lemonade stands. In the dead of winter they wanted to sit outside and sell hot chocolate. I was afraid they'd be buried in a snow drift. Now they keep asking me when. I'm like, when pigs fly. Duh!
I remember doing that as a kid, think we were quite in the hole after buying everything and only getting like 2 customers lol.
ReplyDeleteEntrepeneureal (I am sure that is spelled wrong) Genius! That little apple didn't fall too far from her MaMa's tree, did she?
ReplyDeleteDear Kailey, if you were in MY neighborhood I would pay $10 for a glass of your lemonade! You guys seriously need to move to our zip code!
Too cute!! I, too, remember setting up a lemondade stand as a kid...on our dirt, back road, lol. I was so disappointed when no one came :( Actually I don't even thing anyone drove by!)
ReplyDeleteMy daughter just started her own little "business" too and I just posted something similar on my blog. Must be something in the air, lol.
I remember I wanted to earn money at 9 years old so I went in the vacant lot across the street from my house and found a dumped xmas tree and sold it to my father's work associate for 50 cents. Mind you he was leaving on a plane a few hours later...he probably dumped it back in the vacant lot. It's really funny I don't even celebrate Xmas.
ReplyDeleteLet her charge $10 a cup - AS LONG as it's a crystal cup!!
ReplyDeleteVery cute!
Summer is in the air...
ReplyDeleteHow cute, I hope she has a good lemonade stand. She could probably convince some people into $10 a glass. ;)
In my neck of the woods - I would be more afraid that some cell phone wielding soccer mom in her SUV would fling by so fast the table and its contents would flip over! And, that is just in the preschool parking lot!
ReplyDeletesmart girl. I too had a lemonade stand with my sister. I don't believe we sold a single glass eather. Tell her to try offering a free cookie with each $10.00 glass.. LOL

ReplyDeleteMy oldest has been trying to save up money to buy a flying dutchman pirate ship, so he gathered up things from around the house. Not all of it his, took it to school, and set up a stand at recess trying to sell this stuff! He was very dissapointed when a teacher told him he couldn't do that!
ReplyDeleteMy youngest tried to sell her school artwork to the neighbourhood when she was 8! This makes for good potential in the future!!!! Nurture it.
ReplyDeleteClassic! I used to paint rocks and sell them to my neighbors. They actually bought them because they thought I was cute! I also sold coins from mexico to my friends until my mom made me give them their money back! I was kind of disapointed and I didn't really understand what I had done wrong. I felt more hurt than anything!
