Our nighty entertainment

Unfortunately my girls have inherited my gene of sleepwalking. If I am really tired I will say and do all kinds of weird things. I see spiders and lights all the time. Once, I woke up in the middle of the night and thought someone was after me. My screaming woke up my husband and I beat the crap out of him, when he leaned over me. Once he could get me awake, I just start laughing. Something of which he didn't seem to find as funny. I woke him up one night to see if I could take his order and offered toast with his coffee. That's when you know you've worked way too much. This is something I have done since I was little and poor Jason just has to suffer with it. My girls unfortunately are taking after me. I caught Madisen next to my bed one night, sitting in the floor eating cheese. The same little girl who is terrified of the dark went down a long dark hall to raid the fridge. It's a good thing she has such a high metabolism, because I feel she will be one of these night feeders who eat while they sleep walk. Kailey bless her heart has it bad also. There are so many nights I wake up to breathing right in my face and hear she is leaned over looking me. Talk about waking up out of a dead sleep in a panic, it freaks me out. When you ask her what she needs she just starts talking mumbo-jumbo. At first I just think I can't understand her because I am so tired, and after a couple more questions I figure out what's going on. Then I have to get up and tuck her back in the bed. I get really frustrated with it, when I've been up with Jacob all night and I just got back to sleep.

Late last night just before bed, I turn around and there she stood right at me.

Me; "Kailey what's the matter are you okay? Do you need some medicine?"
(There she stood just blaring her eyes at me)

Kailey; "Well, you know the white package?"

Me;*blink -blink* "Um what?"

Kailey; (twisting her hands) "You know the white package! There’s a white bucket I use to put water in."

Me; " Oh-kay... I think you just need to go back to bed"

By this time Jason is walking in the room and Kailey smacks right into our
entertainment center, and stops. Jason looks at me and cringes and asks if she's okay. I'm right behind her giving him a look and waiting for the tears to start. Yet instead she just keeps right on going to her room. I tell her goodnight and go to kiss her but she just covers up and doesn't respond. Luckily she had no bruises and doesn't remember a thing. I worry one night she might just go right out the front door, which is why I think we need to invest in some good locks for all our safety.

  1. I've heard of people putting locks on the door that are high enough to where a child can't reach it when there is a child in the house that sleep walks. I think it would be a good idea! I would be FREAKED out if my kid woke me up staring at me breathing deeply, it sounds like a horror movie. Good Luck! Glad she wasn't hurt!

  3. I have an 8 year old daughter that sleepwalks! At first it was cute, I would wake up in the morning and play hide and seek (she wasn't able to get out the door back then). I would find her under the couch, in the hall closet, and once, inside my pots and pans cupboard. We recently went to Disneyworld and I woke up to the sound of our hotel door opening and she was walking out it in her sleep!
I'm new to bloggong and enjoy reading some of your posts!
    Thanks!

  4. Well that all sounds pretty scary! Apparently my dh used to sleep walk also. His mom found him out in the family car one morning. After that many locks were installed on the front door!

  9. Goodness, freaky! On the up side, at least neither of the girls has beat you up in your sleep the same way you did your husband!

  10. My daughter (12yrs old) woke me up one night saying, "Daddy, I don't want a cupcake." Just told her it was ok and put her back to bed. This is one of many. We put chimes/bells on the doors that go outside...just in case.

  14. This story is great. I am also guilty of sleep ‘talking’. I’ve carried full conversations with the hubb in the middle of the night and not remember any of it in the morning. :)

  15. Just passing through and thought I would mention I had the same problem growing up!...and I did walk out the door, down the street, and someone broke into a friends house then climbed into bed with her, and I was 6. Yes, locks could be good things! :) Good luck.

  16. On one hand that is pretty adorable but on the other, I used to do that when I was little and the dresser got knocked over ontop of me...I was not a happy camper.

But on the other hand, before something like THAT happens to poor Kailey, you may wanna like give her some medicine or something, isn't there something out there for that kind of stuff? Or am I just blabbing on and on? I think I'm just blabbing but hey, I really think locks are good lol.

    Much love, Savanna <3

  17. I know it's not to be funny, but it is! I can just picture you beating your hubby! lol!! My mom told me once when I was like five I would sleep walk and she said that I would pee in the cat box! Hm..maybe that's why I love cats so much? lol!!

  18. I'm a big sleep talker - when I was younger I used to sleep walk, but I only do that once in a blue moon. My husband used to be freaked out by it, but now he knows to ignore me. LOL!

  19. I love your blog...laughed my bum off when I saw the picture of poop. I came across it because I want to make my own blog and was looking for sites that let me be creative for free. So, when scrolling through, your title interested me and your blog is hillarious! I'm a SAHM, too...very easy to relate. So, how did you get your blog designed so neat...that's what I want, I just don't know how to do it! missjones83@gmail.com

  20. Sleep walking can be a scary thing... I haven't done it in years, but I managed to get out of the house one time. Back when I was in school I got out of bed, grabbed my backpack, and I started heading for the bus stop. Luckily my father had fallen asleep on the couch that night and heard me open the door. The locks sound like a good idea. If not locks, then at least something on the door that will make a noise. Best of luck to you with this problem.

  21. My sister used to sleepwalk. She took some medication and it completely stopped. You might want to consider that option...cause you really don't want to wake up and find your kids hurt or out of the house!
    Love your header!

  24. Hello Johnina! My name is Latasha, and my blog address is thegoodoftheland.blogspot.com . I must say that you have an excellent blog here. I am a stay at home mom too, and I enjoyed your posts! I am very new to blogging (in fact I just published my first post today) and I was wondering if you could help me with a couple of things. First, I was wondering how do you change the look of your blog from the templates that blogger.com gives you to what you have here? It's very beautiful and it really conveys the message. Also, I just wanted you to swing by and read my first post and see how it looks/feels. Oh yeah, I also plan on writing some things about mommyhood, so when I do (or before I do) I could definitely use some comments, pointers, insight, etc.
God Bless You and your family, and have a wonderful day!

  26. This made me laugh out loud... and strangely enough, brought back memories. It was only a few years ago that my friend told me I sang her a song in my sleep. When I was little, Mom used to find me trying to climb up my wall.

The best part of your story is when your little girl walked right into the entertainment center! Poor girl, but the mental picture is great... Trust me, I used to do that too.

Just came across your blog and I love it!

check mine out, I will be adding you to my blog roll for sure! Thanks!

  28. Lock 'em in their room, that should be enough of a problem (the getting out of the room) for them to wake up.

I have never sleep walked(that I know of), just sleep talking.

  29. yeah that leaving the house business is scary! It's scary enough to have someone talking to you and you don't realize they're really sleeping. It's just weird. Doesn't happen here often. The kids trying to go to the bathroom in odd places used to happen a lot hwile we were up watching TV at night. They'd have that glazed over & wild look on their faces while doing all sorts of things like go into a bedroom and sit at the desk, get in the shower or go to the linen closet in the hallway and open the door, completely befuddled. No one ever had an accident though.

  30. I found your blog link on a girlfriends blog this morning and I must say you are hilarious. I even love the poopy diapers ... okay I don't love them but being a mum to 2 18 month olds I know you get what I mean :)

  31. I can totally relate to this topic. I'm a sleepwalker myself and my kids have done it a little. We inherited it from my dad. My mom told some great stories about him. He left the house one night but someone caught him luckily before he could cross the train tracks! Another night my mom woke up to him standing on the bed telling her the broom was going thru the ceiling! I've fallen downstairs myself and went in my brother's room and turned over a dresser in front of the door. that one really scared my mom cause she couldn't get in the room. Haven't sleepwalked so much as an adult although I do still sleeptalk obviously. Woke my husband up one night right after our house burned and we were spending the night at an aunt's house. He was leaning over me when I woke up and i just started screaming and woke everybody in the house up, don't you know.
Love your blog. I'll be back!

  32. I have a three year old son that we ended up having to put high locks on the doors because of his night time activities!!

  33. My son used to like to walk out the door while I was in the other room. We bought these really cool window locks that you just stick to the door and the frame. If they become disengaged the alarm sounds. You can turn it on or off and it was so nice because it's very piercing. After a while he just stopped trying to get out but it would definitely wake you up if she tried to sleep-walk out at night.
You can find one at Amazon.com by searching window alarm :)
