Interference to Heaven

Yesterday, I picked up both my girls from school and headed to the grocery store. They both had received balloons from a walkathon, so Jacob was squealing his little lungs out over the excitement of them. All the way there they bounced in their seats flipping them around all over the backseat, hitting each other. Had I known they were going to be pumped full of sugar and have these balloons, I would have never attempted the store and went before hand. (I'll just let you imagine how that went)
Excited to get back to the balloons after shopping, Madisen flung open her door and out came her balloon. Trying to salvage the day at a moments notice, I immediately start consoling her. I've been down this teary road before I knew immediate action was crucial . Explaining to her, don't panic it's okay 'Damon' will love chasing it when it gets to Heaven, she quickly calmed down. That was until as we were driving away and she noticed it stuck in a tree, and then there was no convincing her out of a complete and total melt down. (It was no longer just about loosing a balloon but a friend also... He will always be remembered. )

  5. Oh, my! I can't count the number of escaped balloons, just too many to fathom. The only thing to remember is one day you will wish that you had a fallen balloon to chase. I cannot believe I am at the stage where my kids don't want balloons.
    So sad

  7. I totally relate to losing the balloon! We had to come to a screeching halt in the middle of a busy road one time to run into a corporate parking lot and rescue a balloon from a bush. Of course, it was just our luck that as soon as I touched the balloon, waving to my screaming son in the car, it popped! He cried all the way home!

  8. Gifts from Heaven --

One afternoon when my children were playing in the back yard there was a kite that came floating down from above. My Craig, who was 2 or three at the time, came in the house and reported that a kite came down from heaven. He was disappointed when some neighborhood children came looking for their lost kite.

  14. Ohhh and about the lost balloon, it happens to my little sisters all the time. It's like some kind of spiritual thing now...They get emotional...And we all have to stand and say good-bye or we aren't showing respect to the passing balloon. (why?!)

  18. My 4 year old suffered a similar fate a few weeks back. Her Dad just bought her this perky looking balloon with a minnie mouse on it . She was constantly talking to it( rather her ) and waving her like her most prized possession. We were walking it down to our place from the nearby city centre and halfway home the string of her minnie balloon broke and off it flew to the blue sky. I can never ever forget the look on my baby's face of utter helplessness as if she was losing her beloved minnie who she had just met ,forever. I think my daughter has more or less forgotten about the balloon incident butI can't seem to get over it.

  19. I totally know the feeling. Instead of Bottles, Barbies and Boys, I have Sippy's, Star Wars, and Girls (wish I had another "S" word...) My life is crazy with 3 boys but it's so fun too.

We have the balloon moment over and over again. The only problem is, is that I am terrified of balloons so the fight is more about actually obtaining one than losing it. I don't think my kids would let go of a balloon (if they had one) if I shook them out of the car on some hydraulic lift system like one of those cool rappers.

No sir, those balloons are staying much to my dismay....

Come check on out my bog if you want. I've added yours to my favorites. I'm not as fancy as you (did you ever think you'd be labeled "fancy"?) but I do have fun and keep it pretty honest. I hope you enjoy it.

  20. I’ve read through several of the latest posts, and I am definitely going to link my wife here. Just married last month, we have discussed having kids in the near future, and your experiences are both golden and sobering to that endeavor. I am self-employed and trying to launch a novel, and she works full-time and goes to school for massage therapist…I can’t imagine how our lives will be when the stork come-a-callin’…

  21. New to your blog too- but as a mom and big Barbie fan, had to check it out. I've always thought balloons were one of the great first lessons in life, hold onto them or they will float away, and if you are too rough with them they will pop. (Not to easy to explain to a toddler though.) :-)
    Great Blog!
